Mixer Settler

The development of Solvent Extraction Processes over recent years has led to the introduction of new extraction processes and equipments and in turn has increased its application in many extraction units including Metal extraction Plants. One of the most sought after and efficient extractor is Mixer Settler.

Mixer settler is a typical arrangement or equipment used to extract or remove (whichever is applicable) a particular component (the solute) from one liquid phase to another. This is generally called as Liquid-Liquid Extraction. In practical use, usually one phase is water based (Aqueous) and the other is Organic Solvent (immiscible with water).

In its simplest form a Mixer-Settler consists of an agitated tank (Mix Box), in which Both the liquid phases are mixed, followed by a shallow gravity settling Basin (Settler)where the solutions disengage into individual layers for separate discharge.

These Mixer-Settlers are extensively used in Petrochemical, Nuclear, Fertilizer and Metallurgical industries. The Advantages that has made these extractors most sought after is:
